Helium-3 in 40 seconds

Our first little explainer. A fuel sitting on the Moon, why it's so rare here, and why people are already planning to go and get it.

Helium-3A frame from our Helium-3 explainer, the Sun blasting streaks of particles across spaceNo. 06

We like making stuff about stuff we think is cool. This time it's helium-3, and it's the first of the little explainers we want to make.

Sound on. Corey narrates it.

What it covers

There's a fuel sitting on the Moon that could change everything. The Sun has been blasting helium-3 across space for billions of years, and the Moon has been quietly collecting it in its dust.

Here on Earth it's incredibly rare. Right now it's used to cool quantum computers to almost absolute zero. The big dream is fusion: clean energy with far less radioactive waste. The catch is that we'd have to go to the Moon to get it, and people are already planning to.

How we made it

Corey recorded the narration. Everything you see was built in code and timed to his voice, shot by shot. No stock footage, and no AI voice.

The music is "Infinite Perspective" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com), licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0.

If there's something you think is cool and want 40 seconds on, tell us. We'd like to make more of these.
